Seeing double? Sport’s funniest, most incredible lookalikes

Seeing double? Sport’s funniest, most incredible lookalikes

The Rundown

This no-it-can't-be Ronaldinho look alike was discovered in Indonesia by Fabio Cannavaro, who immediately flagged it up on Twitter.

The Italian World Cup-winning captain was on his travels when he came across the dead ringer to the Brazilian forward.

But he's far from the only uncanny lookalike in the world of sport. Here's our pick of some of the best.

Robin van Persie and 'Robin van Per-Singh'

The "Indian Robin van Persie" - pictured above - recently took social media and the internet by storm, with the unknown man finding himself world famous and re-named 'the Indian van Persie' or 'Robin van Persingh'.

Gokmen Akdogan, a 24-year-old from Istanbul, makes a good living pretending to be the Portuguese superstar. The two even met face-to-face last year when the great man was in town playing Galatasaray.

- - -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ian Thorpe

Sport's most incredible lookalikes

The likeness between the Swedish superstar striker and the legendary Australian swimmer is unique in that it's a meeting of two indisputable greats: Ibrahimovic has won league titles with six clubs in five different countries, while the Thorpedo has five Olympic golds to his name.

Mark Hughes and Ailsa from Home and Away

The early 90s were indeed dark days for the art of hairdressing. But look more closely and you'll see that this lookalike is actually more than just the hair - nose, chin and eyes are all spookily similar.

- - -

Rafa Benitez and René from 'Allo 'Allo

Fans used to jeer "you're just a fat Spanish waiter" at Benitez during his days at Liverpool. But as these pictures show that was inaccurate on two counts, because René is (a) French, and (b) the proprietor of his own café, not a mere waiter.

Dimitar Berbatov and Andy Garcia

The gulf in years between the Hollywood heartthrob (57) and the former Spurs, Manchester United and Fulham striker (33) means they don't look as alike as they used to, but at its peak the resemblance was truly uncanny.

Carlos Valderrama and Sideshow Bob

.
Sport's most incredible lookalikes

Simpsons creator Matt Groening has never admitted that Sideshow Bob was modelled on the Colombian superstar, but given that the character's first appearance was in 1990, just around the time that Valderrama found major stardom, we're ready to believe that he's a straight copy.

- - -

Giovanni Trapattoni and Lloyd Bridges

.
Sport's most incredible lookalikes

The former Ireland manager and the Hollywood star (father of Beau and Jeff Bridges) both had long and distinguished careers - but both are remembered most fondly for their early 1980s work: Trapattoni at Juventus, and Bridges in Airplane!

- - -

Fabio Capello and Postman Pat

Unlike Pat, Capello failed to deliver anything of note during his years in England.

- - -

David Luiz and Davi Luiz

.
Sport's most incredible lookalikes

The Chelsea defender used to have all manner of comedy lookalikes doing the rounds on the web, mostly based on funny pictures taking the mickey out of his hair. But it turned out that he had an even better real-life doppelganger who nearly shares his name as well as his looks: Davi Luiz, a Brazilian second-division player from the Bahia. They even play in the same shade of blue!

- - -

Mesut Ozil and Marty Feldman

.
Sport's most incredible lookalikes

Even stranger than the similarity in looks is the fact that the legendary Hollywood character actor often played monsters. And of late Ozil himself has been playing monstrous football. Spooky!

Gianfranco Zola and The Fonz

Eeeeeyyyy!

Nick Faldo and Harrison Ford

The English golfing legend tells a story of how an air stewardess once asked him, "Mr Ford, do you ever get mistaken for the golfer Nick Faldo?" The story is undermined somewhat by the fact that Ford has never once mentioned being mistaken for Nick Faldo.

Luis Suarez and this Iraqi bloke

The Uruguayan striker's dead ringer made a trip to Liverpool recently (apparently he is a big fan of the Reds) and claimed to have been mobbed everywhere he went.

Simon Jordan and Shane Warne

You know that game where you have to think of five people to invite to an imaginary dinner party? According to stats we just made up, neither the ex-Crystal Palace chairman or the Aussie cricket legend have ever been mentioned in that game, by anyone, ever.

- - -
Felipe 'Big Phil' Scolari and Gene Hackman

The World Cup-winning Brazilian manager has been mistaken for the Hollywood icon many times, and admits that he's even signed autographs 'Gene Hackman' so as not to disappoint fans who think they've met the actor.
